Swing diameter calculator
Which kit size are you?
Identify Point A as the mount's center of rotation, where the RA and DEC axes intersect. Measure a straight line from A to the furthest part of your rig: Point B1 (front of the telescope), B2 (including your flat panel in the open position), C (rear of the telescope, including connectors and protruding cable), or D (bottom of the counterweight bar or lowest counterweight). The longest of those is your swing radius.
For safety, add a small margin of about 1–2 inches (25–50 mm) to account for cable slack, focuser travel, or minor positioning differences.

From the DSPR community
“Ed and Chris are fantastic. Very responsive, attentive and experienced. I am glad I could have my equipment installed remotely without having to travel, but also that visiting my equipment is an option. The facilities are great and the level of control, monitoring and integration are excellent.”
“The technical staff at DSP Remote are top-notch and very responsive to client issues. It was impractical for me to deliver my kit personally, so I shipped it and they set it up perfectly. Later my aging mount developed issues and they recommended a replacement better suited to robotic operation. They swapped it out and had me running without the loss of any dark sky imaging time.”
“Absolutely outstanding! Remote hosting at DSP Remote is extremely reliable, incredibly user-friendly, under some of the best skies in the country. The team is responsive, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist when a problem arises. Highly recommended!”
“I’ve been at DSP Remote for near three years now, hosting my RC 12 and Tak FSQ-85 combo. The installation was painless and the folks there have been extremely helpful and courteous. Hosting complex equipment hundreds of miles from home needs on-site attention from time to time, and every time I’ve needed help it was delivered quite promptly.”
“I installed my rig at DSPR about 15 months ago. It was my first time trying remote imaging and it was a huge success — six months later I brought another system. The team onsite is extremely knowledgeable across a wide range of equipment and brands. And of course, the dark skies in the desert are breathtaking. I secretly look for a reason to visit DSPR again and again.”
“The site offers unparalleled clarity with minimal atmospheric interference, perfect for deep-sky astrophotography. The infrastructure is top-notch and the technical support team is knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely passionate about astronomy. DSPR has truly elevated my astrophotography experience.”
“The crew at DSP provide quick and responsive service and were there when I needed them during the installation process. And the skies are even better!”
“Wow! Dark skies make all the difference! My images are limited only by my lack of PixInsight skills. The technical support at DSP-R is excellent and they will assist you with equipment and processing issues alike. My images have progressed by leaps and bounds since placing my 6-inch refractor at DSP-R.”
“I cannot say enough great things about DSP Remote and the site in New Mexico. The skies are as dark as it gets, the infrastructure is rock solid, and Ed is genuinely great to work with — supportive, responsive, and hands-on when needed. If you’re looking for a remote hosting solution that actually delivers on its promises, DSP Remote is worth a serious look.”
